few things as blessed as when the day finally comes when you have the little one you’ve been praying for in your arms.  My friend Angie who was able to have a child after years of trying wanted some wall lettering for her baby’s room. The quote she selected, from the Bible, couldn’t have been better suited for her baby’s room.  The quote, “For this child I have prayed, and the Lord has granted the desires of my heart. – 1 Samuel 1:27,” was done in white vinyl lettering on medium pink walls.  The wall words come out wonderfully, and the great thing about using vinyl letters is that you can customize it (both font and colors) to match your style and decor.  If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to add a little something to your child’s nursery, vinyl wall lettering is a great option.

One of the most utilized rooms of our home is our upstairs playroom.  With three kids, under the age of 6, it’s no wonder the room is so well used.  Because my kids spend so much time in there, I wanted to create a great atmosphere, and did so with wall words made from vinyl lettering.

I started with a theme.  I chose the theme “world traveler.”  I got a large map, had my husband build a frame for it, which I painted black.  Next, I purchased 4 inexpensive clocks from Target.  Above the clocks in vinyl letters I put the words London, Tokyo, Paris, Provo – and set the clocks to reflect the time of each of the places.

Next, I found some fun quotes about travel, like one from Dr. Suess “Oh, the places you’ll go” etc.  These quotes I did in coordinating colors, and randomly affixed them to the walls with the same wall letters.  We ended up with a fun playroom that my kids absolutely LOVE!

One option for adding some appeal to the walls of a nursery or child’s room is to add their name to the wall using wall letters.  Letters that spell a child’s name look great above a crib, dresser, or bookshelf, and they also make a great gift.  When adding wall letters there are a couple of options for making this happen. You can either use wooden letters, or vinyl lettering to to make your wall words.

Wooden Wall Letters

Wooden wall letters come in all shapes and sizes, so you have a number of options here.  they can either be solid wood, or a MDF composite material.  Either way, you’ll usually need to paint them, or add some decorative paper to them using modge podge, or glue. Or, they can be painted in pastel colors for a baby’s room, or vibrant colors for a child or teen’s room.  Some of the benefits of doing it with wooden letters is that you get the 3-D look.  However, your options for creativity are less with this method.  On the other hand, you could use vinyl wall lettering.

Vinyl Letters

Vinyl letters are another way to add wall letters to the walls of a child’s room.  While you don’t get the 3D look, there are some definite advantages to doing it this way.  First, you can tap into your creativity more by getting custom vinyl lettering made to suit your exact need, size, and color.  Also, you get a nice hand painted look that’s much more intricate than what are offered by wood wall letters. You can choose your custom wall words to either feature your childs name, or a favorite poem, etc.  They can also feature cute graphics, and vinyl wall lettering kits make great room boarders as well.

In interior design circles it’s becoming apparent that vinyl lettering is the new art of interior decor.  Like stained glass was to the 60’s and green shag carpet was to the 70’s, wall words are to the 2000’s.  However, I wouldn’t consider wall letters a fad as was the green shag carpet.  I think that this wonderful new type of elegant home graffiti is here to stay.

Many businesses and home owners alike are seizing the opportunity to use vinyl letters to decorate and adorn their spaces.  Businesses use it to plaster logo’s on conference room and receptionist area walls, while home owners utilize the vinyl wall lettering for add a touch of personality to the rooms of their homes. Many designers, like Mary McPhail, who worked as a copywriter for 25 years, love the power that words can have on our environments.  In fact, this is one of the reason that wall lettering has created such a stir in the interior design community – because it combines the power of words with the functions of good design and color to product truly stunning effects in both home and office decor.

Rob Reichart from Sales Corp International also found a way to put vinyl wall lettering to good use by plastering sales related motivational quotes on the walls of his sales floor.  The vinyl lettering kits allow him to customize his quotes, and they’re easy to apply and remove, which allows him to change them as frequently as he would like without the need for costly paint.

Once in a while you hear a quote that you just love. I heard one that I just had to create in vinyl lettering for my daughters room. The wall letters I created have become such a hit, that we offer the quote on our website, in the child & teen room section of the website. The quote is “Cinderalla, proof that a new pair of shoes can change your life.” I loved this quote, and my daughter loves Cinderella, shoes, and the whole nine yards. If you’ve got that special girl that loves Cinderalla, Princesses, or shoes…this wall words kit would be the perfect decor item for her bedroom. It’s simple to apply, inexpensive, and will ad a personal touch to any girls room.

When kids grow up, there are certain tranistion periods between certain stages of growth wherin kids want to redecorate their room because they’ve outgrown their current room decor.  We found this to be the case with our 5 year old daughter Janae.   She wanted her room to be “a fun place.”  The challenging thing with childrens decor is that their tastes change so frequently that it’s not really worth painting in most cases.  So, how do you decorate a room to be a “fun place” without painting?  With vinyl lettering and shapes.

We were able to use different colors of vinyl to create polka dots of different sizes that we sporadically stuck to the walls around my daughters room.  We then put her name above her headboard in Soft Pink.  The vinyl letters added just the right finishing touch to her room, making it the fun place she wanted.  The great thing about the vinyl wall lettering is that you can customize it to be whatever you want – whether you want shapes like stars, polka dots, or flowers, they can easily be created with custom vinyl lettering.

This is a great solution that will save you time, money, and a lot of headaches when your kid wants to change their room decor next year.  Just imagine how difficult it would be if you chose to paint instead of using wall lettering like we did.
