Recreation of our daughters room using vinyl lettering to decorate her walls.

Recreation of our daughters room using vinyl lettering to decorate her walls.

When kids grow up, there are certain tranistion periods between certain stages of growth wherin kids want to redecorate their room because they’ve outgrown their current room decor.  We found this to be the case with our 5 year old daughter Janae.   She wanted her room to be “a fun place.”  The challenging thing with childrens decor is that their tastes change so frequently that it’s not really worth painting in most cases.  So, how do you decorate a room to be a “fun place” without painting?  With vinyl lettering and shapes.

We were able to use different colors of vinyl to create polka dots of different sizes that we sporadically stuck to the walls around my daughters room.  We then put her name above her headboard in Soft Pink.  The vinyl letters added just the right finishing touch to her room, making it the fun place she wanted.  The great thing about the vinyl wall lettering is that you can customize it to be whatever you want – whether you want shapes like stars, polka dots, or flowers, they can easily be created with custom vinyl lettering.

This is a great solution that will save you time, money, and a lot of headaches when your kid wants to change their room decor next year.  Just imagine how difficult it would be if you chose to paint instead of using wall lettering like we did.

Vinyl Wall Lettering Helps Bring Some Personality to Your Sitting Room.

Vinyl Wall Lettering Helps Bring Some Personality to Your Sitting Room.

When we built our house, one thing we really wanted was a sitting, or reading area.  Someplace with a couple of comfy chairs and a reading light where one could just relax, away from the TV, computer, and hassles of everday life.  One challenge when decorating a sitting room is how to bring some personality into the room while still keeping it simple.

One way to acheive this is with a favorite quote affixed to the wall of the sitting area.  Whether the quote is inspirational, or captures 0ne’s commitment to home and family, one thing is certain. A little bit of vinyl lettering, in the form of a Wall Stamps custom vinyl lettering kit can go a long way in acheiving the look you want, while keeping the simple and relaxing feel of your reading area.

vinyl_lettering_mcclellan_airplaneSome people struggle when decorating a child’s room.  They ask questions like “what do I do when the child’s tastes change” or “I hate painting, how can I decorate without paint,” etc.  For many parents, vinyl wall lettering has been a God send for them because it’s an inexpensive, easy, and non-permanent way to decorate a childs room. Renters especially love decorating with vinyl lettering, because it’s easy to remove without damaging the walls of your rental unit (which would cost you a lot of $).  Wall lettering is an inexpensive alternative to painting, and provides great options for do it yourself interior decorators who are looking for inexpensive decor options, especially in today’s economy -a  Wall of Words is a great way to decorate.

Vinyl Lettering Helps You Create Beautiful Home Decor Signs.

Vinyl Lettering Helps You Create Beautiful Home Decor Signs.

I meet people all the time that love the vinyl lettering that we make.  However, some of them express concerns that they either rent, and want something that they can take with them, or that they love the lettering so much that they want something they can share with others.  The perfect solution to this is to use some custom vinyl lettering to create a home decor sign.

Here are some simple instructions for creating a beautiful home decor sign:

  1. Order your vinyl lettering kit.  Once you order the kit, you’ll know what size to make the board
  2. Get your board.  You’ll want to measure the vinyl letters, and then add 1″ to each side.  This gives room for a border, so the lettering doesn’t crowd the edges of the sign.
  3. Paint the Board.  You can get some nice acrylic paint for about .50 cents at almost any craft store.  Choose a color that compliments your decor and will provide a nice background for the lettering color you chose.
  4. Distress Edges.  If you like the rustic look, you can distress the edges by sanding off some of the paint with a sanding block.   If you like a clean and contemporary look, you can leave the sign as it is.
  5. Apply the lettering.  Make sure your board is clean and free from dust.  Line out the lettering and apply it with the application instructions that accompanied your order.
  6. Insert Hangers.  You can use sawtooth hangers to affix to the back of the board.  These are inexpensive and will let you hang the sign.
  7. Enjoy.

Once you’ve created your first sign you’ll probably find that it’s addicting.  That’s because you managed to create a beautiful home decor sign that would have cost you a small fortune from a boutique – and you did it without spending much.

Wall Monogram Made from Custom Vinyl Lettering

Wall Monogram Made from Custom Vinyl Lettering

Do you or someone you know love monograms?  My friend Phen is crazy about monograms, she monograms everything…her bags, towels, dish towels.  You name it, chances are she has it monogrammed.  While I think the whole monogram thing can definitely be taken too far, there is one monogram that I love, and this a monogram on your entry way wall with some custom vinyl lettering.

When you think of monogrammed wall lettering, you’re probably wondering what it would look like.  Would it look cheesy? Would it match your decor tastes?  Well, because monograms are custom made with vinyl lettering, you can make it in any style you want, and use any colors you want. This allows you to easily create a beautiful monogram for the entry way of your home.  If you’re considering a monogram, our custom design team can create a unique monogram made from high quality vinyl wall lettering.

Vinyl Lettering Used to Created Etched Storage Jars

Vinyl Lettering Used to Created Etched Storage Jars

Recently Matha Stewart hightlighed another unique way to use vinyl lettering to create unique home decor.  On Martha’s show she showed us how she uses vinyl letters to give pantry jars an etched effect, creating beautiful, and functional etched glass storage jars for storing staples like flour, sugar, brown sugar, etc.

To create the jars you’ll need:

  1. Glass Storage Jars
  2. Painters Tape
  3. Vinyl Letters
  4. Etching Creme

Tape of a square area of the front of the jar with the painters tape.  Then apply the vinyl lettering where you’d like the letters to appear (within the taped off area).  Next, cover the exposed glass area within the taped off section with etching creme, covering the vinyl letters.  Follow the directions on the etching creme container.  When you’re done, you’re going to peel of the used vinyl lettering, which will leave the glass area beneath unexposed to the etching cream, thereby giving you a nice etched glass container (see photo).

Easter Blocks Created with Vinyl Lettering from Wall Stamps

Easter Blocks Created with Vinyl Lettering from Wall Stamps

If  you’ve never seen stacker blocks, I can tell you this – most people love them!  They’re fun and simple to make using vinyl lettering, are a beautiful decor piece, and can be done to match your decor for any holiday throughout the year.  We decided to show you some stacker blocks we made for easter this year.

We got some scrap wood from a building site that was going to be thrown away (my uncle owns a site…and donated the wood).  You can either get scraps, or buy some from a home improvement store.  I chose 2×4 and 2×6 pieces of differing lengths (see image).  I then painted them in pastel easter colors…sanded down the edges to give the blocks an antique / distressed look.  Next we measured the workable surface of each block…laid them out from start to finish with the intent to create the word “Easter.”  We had 6 blocks of differing sizes, laid them out how we wanted and assigned each a letter – e, a, s, t, e, and r.  Next, we cut the vinyl letters out to fit the size of the block on which we placed it.  We applied the letters to each block, and voila! We have a fun and beautiful table piece for the upcoming easter holiday.

Custom Wall of Words - Dining Room

Custom Wall of Words - Dining Room

People are in love with wall lettering, and it’s easy to see why.  vinyl wall lettering is a fast, inexpensive, and easy way to add a personal touch to any room in your home, including your dining room.  So, how can you use a wall of words to create a unique and inspiring dining room?

Step 1:  Define The Purpose of Your Room.  When you decorate with wall letters, it’s helpful to consider what the room in your house is used for.  If your dining room is used only on special occasions, use a more formal quote.  However, if it is used for family gathering and everyday meals, etc. perhaps a quote about families, and gathering would be more appropriate.  Defining your rooms purpose will help you find just the right quote for your wall with words.

Step 2:  Select an area.  Decide where you would like to place your vinyl wall letters.  Take the measurement so that you know the area you have to work within.  For example, if the area you have to work within is 8″ tall x 20″ wide, you’ll want some vinyl lettering that is about 6″ x 18″ so that it doesn’t crowd the borders of your area.

Step 3:  Get your design.  Working with a designer allows you to get the quote you want, but have it designed in a visually appealing way so that it enhances the look of your room.  Many vinyl lettering companies say they do custom design, but they allow you to choose a size and font….that’s it.  Therefore, your vinyl letters end up looking very plain, and rather boring.  With Wall Stamps, our vinyl lettering kits are designed by professional graphic designers, which gives you a more aestetically appealing product.  You can plainly see the difference between our competitors lettering and our professionally designed kits.
