One thing people ask us about on a consistent basis is whether or not we can do custom monograms using vinyl lettering. Vinyl wall lettering monograms can add a lot of beauty to any room in your home.  If you’re not familiar with what a monogram is, amonogram is a motif made by overlapping or combining one or more letters form one symbol. Monograms are often made by combining the initials of an individual or a company, used as recognizable symbols or logos. A series of uncombined initials is properly referred to as a cypher and is not a monogram, although ciphers are frequently referred to as monograms.  An individual’s monogram is often a very fancy piece of art for adorning luggage, clothing, and so forth. Monograms of the names of monarchs are used as part of the insignia of public organizations in kingdoms, such as on police badges.

It’s amazing what a little bit of acryllic paint, and some cusotm vinyl lettering will do to a plain 6×24x1″ wooden board.  Paint the board with acryllic paint, distress the edges, and apply some vinyl lettering made specifically to fit the board (available at Wall Stamps), and you’ve got the makings of a beautiful wooden sign.  One of the favorite gift ideas we give for weddings, or christmas is a decorative sign with a couple’s name and est. date.  Use your imagination to choose the fonts and colors that will truly make your sign stand out.

Just about everyone has glass baking dishes, whether their Pyrex, or another brand (my favorite is Ikea, only $7.99 for a large) you can turn an ordinary glass baking dish into a truly unique gift with a reverse lettering kit and some glass etching creme (available at almost any craft or hobby store).  Use the reverse lettering kit as a stencil, brushing the etching creme onto the exposed glass, which will etch the lettering into the baking dish.  We have often etched the phrase “Baked With Love from the Holdaway House” into the bottom of our pyrex dishes.  This sure does beat using a sharpie or masking tape…and you usally get your dishes back after loaning them out, or cooking dinner for the neighbors.

When kids grow up, there are certain tranistion periods between certain stages of growth wherin kids want to redecorate their room because they’ve outgrown their current room decor.  We found this to be the case with our 5 year old daughter Janae.   She wanted her room to be “a fun place.”  The challenging thing with childrens decor is that their tastes change so frequently that it’s not really worth painting in most cases.  So, how do you decorate a room to be a “fun place” without painting?  With vinyl lettering and shapes.

We were able to use different colors of vinyl to create polka dots of different sizes that we sporadically stuck to the walls around my daughters room.  We then put her name above her headboard in Soft Pink.  The vinyl letters added just the right finishing touch to her room, making it the fun place she wanted.  The great thing about the vinyl wall lettering is that you can customize it to be whatever you want – whether you want shapes like stars, polka dots, or flowers, they can easily be created with custom vinyl lettering.
